polling parental opinions

Just wanted to ask if any of our parent friends have an opinion on a crib purchase we're considering. It's a floor model on clearance at a nearby store. Its two short ends are solid and the sides have slats. I was wondering about safety issues in buying a floor sample that might have been handled a lot, and about the solid-sided thing. If any parents see this and have an opinion, would you email me or comment and let me know?

I think it might be this: but am not sure, can't find any pictures of it in crib form.

Thanks very much!

I know this is late, but I have to say you should check it out personally first - a crib my in-laws got mysteriously fell apart (as in, the side just detached from the rest of the crib) and no amount of chicanery was able to fix it. I think this is pretty rare, though - Kim is right.

Thanks for the advice! The crib was still there today and we are thinking about taking the plunge and getting it. Then we'd have to get serious about finding a place to put it. If nothing else, our flood today has given us a head start on rearranging furniture around here :)

I wouldn't worry about safety issues with a floor model - yes, it's been handled, but probably by parents, not kids who have been climbing or jumping in it. Cribs are designed to be sturdy enough to handle 2 and 3 year olds - Molly kicks hers all the time, one nephew used to rock his and bang it against the wall - and I've never heard of one falling apart from use. Also, the solid side thing shouldn't be a problem - by the time the baby's old enough and mobile enough to move around in there, you'll probably have a crib bumper up to cushion his/her head from banging against the solid sides. You'll also have fewer slats for the kid to get his/her feet and hands stuck in (most nights, Molly sleeps with at least one foot sticking out through a slat in the crib).
