October

I finally signed up with a temp agency, and have an assignment which started this week and lasts two weeks more. It is definitely the most boring job I’ve ever had, even worse than painting guide posts, but somehow I don’t mind it. I can listen to music all day and not think about anything. It’s pleasant.
Bumper sticker I recently saw: “I’m the Christian that the devil and the liberal media warned you about.” Doesn’t matter what you think about Christians, the devil, or the media: that’s one good bumper sticker.

Welcome to the club! I’ve just hit the 2 month mark in my temp job, and it’s amazing how quickly the time flies when you have no responsibility, no expectations, and no challenges. If you can find a way to listen to music, spend half your day reading online (my diversion of choice), or otherwise goof off, it’s like a summer vacation you get paid (very little) for. And if you’re very lucky, like me, you get an office that provides lots of free food.
And I agree, that is an awesome bumper sticker.

You both must live in a fantasy world.
Here I am, slaving away at grading and feeling a little swoony due to not packing a big enough lunch and dinner, worried about whether I’ll have enough adjunct stuff in the spring to survive and still practically hung over from running myself ragged at a conference in Berkeley in the hopes of getting a job next year, and here you guys are listening to Dave Matthews and sipping cola until they figure out your’e overqualified enough to be able to handle two peoples’ temp jobs. Make me sick!
On the plus side, I’m actually doing what I want to, even if not in the precise way I had envisioned. So there is that going for me 🙂

Kim: Congratulations on two months! There is quite a bit of free food around. I did sort of miss that from office work. Sort of. I don’t get to surf the net (that was my main time-passer at past jobs), but I am getting to catch up on my public radio listening, so I’m better informed than I’ve been in a while, which is kind of a mixed blessing.
KDC: heh heh…yeah, it’s pretty great all right. You should try it! The only problem is that I don’t have much time left for that archaeology thing. Hope all went well at the conference.
